2005 Outreach Project - Breast Cancer Quilts LPQG chose Breast Cancer: Prevention and Cure as our main theme for our Outreach projects. Most everyone in our guild has been touched by this terrible disease in one way or another, so this project is especially meaningful. The guild, along with community members, made over 320 quilt blocks 2005 Breast Cancer fabric packets. The blocks were then assembled into quilt tops and quilted by our members. The 28 finished quilts were all donated to our local Journey of Hope/Sense of Security fund to help the women of La Plata County with the expense of mammograms and cancer treatment. Our Outreach Project ended with the Pink Ribbon Gala, held on October 12, 2005 at the Fort Lewis College Ballroom, where the quilts were auctioned off. The quilts, from small wall hangings to lap quilts, raised a total of $3,820.00. Wow! We have some pictures of the Breast Cancer Quilts and Pink Ribbon Gala here. Click on the "View Fine Portraits" button, then enter "Journey of Hope" as the event name. |
